Yea, you are that guy, the one who sees an embarrassing moment and cannot kept their mouth shut. Or you know a secret about someone and you hold onto it until you can tell a group of people all at once, knowing full well that person is also included in the group. The reasons you do this can vary, which reason is you? 1. You are a very insecure or lonely person and you are trying to get others to accept you. (cool, funny, popular) 2. You are a very conceited person and feel superior. (your opinion is the only one that matters) 3. You are a very jealous person and cannot allow someone else into your group of friends or out shine you. 4. You are an unhappy person, you may even hate your life, so you enjoy seeing others suffer also. (why should they be so happy) 5. You are a frustrated person because you feel powerless in certain situations. (you need to have more control) 6. You are just a cruel person who does not care about the feelings of others. (you hate people) No matter the reason, you will humiliate someone for your benefit at their expense. You make someone feel insignificant so you can feel significant. That is why we call it degrading, because you are attempting to lower them a grade, status wise. It is unwise to make others feel small in order to inflate your self-esteem, self-confidence, or self-respect. The result for your victim is an overwhelming feeling of worthlessness and the more extreme humiliations can cause a sense of hopelessness, helplessness, suicide, and murder. Yes, murder, recall the first murder recorded in history was when Cain blamed Abel for his humiliation before God. Christians are to never willing humiliate others, because God has made it clear that our responsibility is to encourage each other in the faith. We are not to destroy each other’s self-worth, but instead develop it. We do so by: 1. MAKING PEACE. “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (Romans 14:19) 2. COMFORTING OTHERS “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” (1Thessolians 5:11) 3. PLEASING OTHERS “Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.” (Romans 15:2) 4. NOT ABUSING YOUR AUTHORITY “For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:” (2Corinthians 10:8)
